About Sugar Alcohols
Sugar alcohols include; Maltitol, Sorbitol, Xylitol, and Polyglycitol. Alcohols are processed through the liver and kidneys, and only minimally through the pancreas; this is why sugar alcohols have a negligible affect on blood sugar levels.
Sugar alcohols are slowly absorbed; therefore the rise in blood glucose and the insulin response associated with ingestion of glucose is significantly reduced.
Sugar alcohols in LARGE QUANTITIES can have a laxative affect.
We do realize that there has been a lot of negative press about sugar
alcohols; but there are a few issues that have been left out of this negative
press.
1. Not everyone has the same digestive system, everyone responds
differently to sugar alcohols. Some people have no adverse affects at all.
Some people may get diarrhea, or gas.
2. The human body does build a tolerance to sugar alcohols. If your
first exposure causes discomfort....subsequent exposures, will have less, or
no "side affects" at all.
.
3. You need to "test" your own tolerance levels.
4. When a product lists a recommended serving size, adhere to that
serving size. Just because something has half the calories does not mean you
can eat twice as much!!
For the benefit of the consumer, we list the sugar substitutes used in
the sugar free candy that we sell. An informed consumer is a happy consumer.
Some candies will have a combination of sugar alcohols, and equal, or splenda.
Some candies have only equal, or just splenda. We let you know up front what
kind of sugar substitutes are used so you can make an informed choice.
All bulk candy is sold by the 1/4
pound and multiples there of.
